THEriksen.net was launched 2nd June 2007 by Tor H. Eriksen (born 1986). His passion for photography began in late 2006, and has since exploded. Eriksen resides in Denmark, but is a native Norwegian from a country where mountains, forests, rivers, waterfalls, fjords, northern lights and small towns make excellent subjects for photography. Let’s just say the Norwegians are spoiled in this matter. The Danes, on the other hand, have their endless crops and wonderous sandy beaches which stretch on for miles along the Scandinavian seas. In late 2007, Eriksen completed stage 1 of Morten Krogvold’s photographic workshop in Vågå.
Eriksen points out loneliness, defenselessness, melancholy and death as the main themes in his photography, mainly because these are essential and beautiful themes in one’s life, albeit never being the center of conversation or discussion. Being such vital subjects, Eriksen tries through his photography to make people aware of one’s mortality, as well as showing how loneliness and the time a person spends by theirself could be the most constructive time ever spent.
Eriksen’s main influences are directors Bela Tarr, Stanley Kubrick and Jim Jarmusch, musical talents John Surman, Ludwig van Beethoven and Rammstein, authors and writers Edgar Allan Poe, Till Lindemann, Jens Bjørneboe, Stephen King, Anton Chekhov and Chuck Palahniuk, as well as photographers Michael Kenna, Morten Krogvold, Eugène Atget, Sally Mann and Tomas Carlström.
Tor H. Eriksen has had his photographs published in several web-based magazines, as well as a variety of printed magazines in Norway.
